Man charged with fleeing police, resisting arrest in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – One man is facing charges after allegedly fleeing law enforcement in Morgantown.
According to a uniform citation, the Kentucky State Police observed a vehicle speeding northbound Wednesday on Interstate 165 at 97 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone.
Authorities say a KSP trooper slowed a cruiser down to 40 mph, and the driver of the other vehicle then passed the trooper.
While trying to initiate a traffic stop, authorities say the vehicle began to speed up, reaching 118 mph.
Authorities say the vehicle began passing other vehicles, and despite a clear roadway, ice and snow were still present.
The citation further states the driver pulled over near the 26-mile marker exit.
Authorities say the trooper held the driver “at gun point” while giving verbal commands.
According to the citation, the trooper had to open the driver’s side door, and the driver, identified as 20-year-old Abdala Songolo of Bowling Green, was “immediately uncooperative.”
Authorities say with one hand cuffed, Songolo failed to comply with commands and reached for the center console.
The citation says the trooper again gave commands that were not followed, and the trooper conducted an arm bar take down, escorting Songolo to the ground and placing him into handcuffs.
Authorities say Songolo asked the trooper if he had children, “implying a threat.”
Songolo remains at the Butler County Jail on charges of speeding 25 miles per hour or greater over the speed limit, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), reckless driving, resisting arrest, failure to or improper signal, failure to produce insurance card and first-degree wanton endangerment.
