62-year-old woman dead following house fire in Harlan County

HARLAN COUNTY, Ky. – One woman has died following a house fire in Harlan County on Monday.

The Kentucky State Police says on Monday night around 9:22 p.m., it received a call reporting a house fire at 229 Shell Hollow Road in the Eastbrook community of Harlan County.

Members of KSP Post 10 responded to the scene, along with the West Cloverfork Fire Department and Sunshine Fire Department.

Upon arrival, first responders say they located a house fully engulfed in flames.

After bringing the fire under control, first responders say they located a female victim near the front entrance of the home.

The victim was identified as 62-year-old Judy Holden. Authorities say Holden sustained fatal injuries from the fire.

Holden was pronounced dead at the scene by the Harlan County coroner. An autopsy has been scheduled at the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankfort, according to KSP.

At this time, troopers say no foul play is suspected. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Harlan County Rescue Squad and additional first responders assisted at the scene.
