Tompkinsville man arrested following alleged vape shop break-in

TOMPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A Tompkinsville man has been arrested in connection with an alleged vape shop break-in.

According to a uniform citation, the Tompkinsville Police Department received a call around 8:15 a.m. Sunday reporting a break-in at the Lucky 7 Vape store.

Authorities say they responded to the scene. While there, police say they viewed video evidence of a break-in happening at around 3 a.m. that morning.

Police say some of the items reported stolen included Marlboro menthol cigarette cartons and some marijuana vapes.

Officers say they were later notified that 25-year-old Stephen Hammonds of Tompkinsville was a subject of interest.

Police say they spoke to Hammonds at his listed address and observed a pair of pants matching those of the subject in the video

Hammonds agreed to speak to law enforcement at the police department, authorities say. Police say Hammonds was told he was not detained or under arrest and that he could leave at any time.

According to the citation, Hammonds stated he had the product at his house and was going to turn it back over to police.

Hammonds stated he had stolen the products to sell them to other individuals, police say.

The stolen items included a carton of Marlboro menthol cigarettes, nine packs of another variety of Marlboro menthol cigarettes and nine vapes of several varieties.

Hammonds was placed under arrest. He remains at the Barren County Detention Center on charges of third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others between $500 and $1,000, trafficking in marijuana (between 8 ounces and 5 pounds), first offense, and license required cigarette deals, first offense.
