Eastern Elementary to host 6th Grade Academic Showcase

GLASGOW, Ky. – Eastern Elementary School has announced it is hosting the Sixth Grade Academic Showcase for Section 10.
According to Barren County Schools, written composition will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, while content assessments, along with quick recall, will be held Saturday, Dec. 6 at Eastern Elementary School.
Registration on Saturday opens at 8 a.m., and quick recall begins at 11 a.m.
Other competing schools include Austin Tracy Elementary, Monroe County Middle School and Temple Hill Elementary.
The KAAC Sixth Grade Academic Showcase features Content Assessment events in mathematics, science, social studies, language arts and arts/humanities, with a double elimination quick recall tournament.
The event began in 1999 with 90 schools and has since more than doubled in size.
According to KAAC executive director Brad Persinger, the showcase was designed to fill a need in Kentucky schools.
He says, “As KAAC began to look for ways to reach more students, we realized that a significant number of students were graduating from fifth grade, then finding it hard to compete on their schools’ middle grades Governor’s Cup team. The showcase gives those students another competitive opportunity, and helps them remain interested and active in academic competition until they can more realistically contribute to their academic team programs on the middle grades Governor’s Cup level.”
According to the contest manager Dinah Wallace, Barren County Schools have participated and hosted this event since it began in 1990.
“We are looking forward to another exciting opportunity for our students to excel academically,” she says.
