Greenwood Park Church of Christ food pantry in need of donations

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – With many in the community still needing access to food, local pantries are seeing more families come through their doors, including at Greenwood Park Church of Christ.

Before COVID, their pantry served about 50 families a month. Now, that number has risen to 500 per month before SNAP benefits, eventually climbing towards 1,000.

Manager Hope Baker, who has been with the pantry since 2016, says the increase in families seeking help in recent weeks has been massive compared to previous years.

“The last Thursday in October, we would normally see maybe 40 families. We saw over 100. The first Thursday of this month, we will maybe see 150. We saw 300… and then today wasn’t much different. So even though the government may be on the verge of reopening, the money hasn’t started flowing yet, and people haven’t seen anything on their SNAP card, so I presume and assume that that’ll stay that way for a couple more weeks,” Baker said.

Staff want to thank Kroger on Scottsville Road, Aldi, Panera Bread, Target and Meijer for donating the food they can.

He also urges the community to stop by at 1818 Campbell Lane to drop off food or money.
