Guide to free meals on Veterans Day, local happenings

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Multiple events will be honoring Veterans Day this Tuesday in south-central Kentucky, from parades to gatherings.
Below is a list of scheduled happenings on Tuesday, Nov. 11:
- Western Kentucky University observes Veterans Day: WKU will observe Veterans Day at 11 a.m. with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Guthrie Bell Tower.
- SKYCTC recognizes Veterans Day: SKYCTC invites all students, faculty, staff and the community to attend its annual Veterans Day Ceremony at 11:30 a.m. The ceremony will take place at the Main Campus flagpole as individuals gather to honor and remember those who have served our nation.
- Franklin Veterans Day Ceremony: For Veterans Day, the U.S. Post Office in Franklin will be decorated with flags, and wreaths will be laid at the Blue Star Marker and the Never Forget plaque during a short ceremony. The public is invited to attend the 11 a.m. ceremony.
- Operation Pride Flag Raising Ceremony: A flag-raising ceremony will be held at Foundation Christian Academy at 1 p.m. in Bowling Green.
- Barren County Veterans Day Parade: The parade will gather at Save-a-Lot parking lot in downtown Glasgow and end at a veterans wall of honor. A ceremony will follow. The parade will begin at noon.
- Barren County Veterans Association Veterans Day Dinner: Veterans eat free, otherwise there is a $10 entry. Veterans are invited to dine at the Glasgow National Guard Armory. Doors open at 6 p.m., with dinner starting at 7 p.m.
- Veterans Day Parade in Morgantown: The parade will start at 1 p.m. in the downtown Morgantown area. A map can be viewed here.
- Veterans Day Meal at Hart County Veterans Committee: HAWKS Homeschool Co-op would like to honor veterans and their families with a meal and a small token of gratitude this Veterans Day. All veterans are invited to the Hart County Veterans Committee Hall, where they will be serving pastas, soups, desserts and more. The event will be at 3324 S. Dixie Highway in Horse Cave from 5 to 7 p.m.
- Free Meal for Veterans/Active Military at Chicken Salad Chick Bowling Green: All active-duty military and veterans will receive a free meal with one side and a drink as a thank you for their service. Veterans and active military will need to show a military ID, DD214 or arrive in uniform.
- Free Meal for All Veterans/Active Military at Atomic Kitchen: Atomic Kitchen will be offering a free Rocketman or Axel Fowley meal to all veterans and active military from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for dine-in only. A military ID will be required.
- Q Coffee Emporium: Veterans can enjoy a free small drip coffee by showing a military ID.
