Southern Paws Animal Rescue reports false Venmo account

LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – A Logan County-based animal rescue is warning the community that it has received reports of a false Venmo account.
Southern Paws Animal Rescue says a scam Venmo account is pretending to be the same as Southern Paws’, with a very similar username and a copied logo.
To ensure you are donating to the proper rescue and not a fake account, Southern Paws says to check for the following:
- Southern Paws Animal Rescue has a business Venmo.
- Its bio has its mission statement.
- The real account has a blue purchase protection mark.
- The real account has Southern Paws’ contact information.
- The real account shows previous transactions.
- There is no underscore or dash at the end of the real account’s username.
The real username is the following, according to the rescue: @SouthernPawsAnimalRescue.
If you have accidentally sent funds to the fake account, the rescue recommends chatting with Venmo to get it refunded.
