Bowling Green looking for bids to build Riverfront Park
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The City of Bowling Green is taking another step toward starting construction on Riverfront Park.
The city is now asking for bids to construct the park portion of Riverfront Park, with the expectation to come to an agreement with the contractor in November and begin construction soon thereafter. The city is getting excited as we get closer to the construction date.
“Just last week, we released the bid package for phase one of Riverfront Park. What that means is now we’ve put it out there for a contractor to say, hey, I want to build this for you, for this price. And so we’re going to evaluate those bids whenever they come back in. Look at those. See who the firms are, see the prices are, see their experience levels and then make a decision on which one we think is the best to build phase one Riverfront Park,” said director of Neighborhood and Community Services Brent Childers.
The park is not the only aspect of Riverfront Park, as the river itself will play a large factor. Right now, sensors are sitting at the bottom of the river collecting data data which will be used to help build the whitewater rafting section of the park.
“They have recently installed some devices in the river that track and log water flows, water levels, pressures, trying to get as much data as they can to understand how does this river function over the course of a year. So this isn’t just what’s the river it today, it’s where is this river at through different parts of the year. How does that volume move up and down,” Childers said.
The park is expected to be completed sometime in spring of 2026, with the whitewater rafting experience following a few years after that.
