Musician from Bowling Green makes difference through his new foundation

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Vito Tisdale, better known as “Big V” from the Grammy-nominated group Nappy Roots, is stepping back onto the scene—but not just for the music.

The Bowling Green native has turned his energy toward mental health advocacy, youth empowerment and community-building.

Now the CEO of Working Class and the Tisdale Foundation, Big V says his mission is to “give a voice to the voiceless.” His work focuses on helping youth discover their identities and offering support to those facing emotional or psychological struggles.

A single father himself, Tisdale says his journey after leaving Nappy Roots gave him a deeper understanding of the power of healing through music.

“Music is a powerful tool,” he said. “I didn’t know I could motivate people just by sharing my own struggles.”

He’s particularly passionate about addressing trauma, addiction and the lack of parental support many children face.

“We can’t keep putting Band-Aids on mental health,” he added. “We need real solutions.”

The Tisdale Foundation is currently securing funding to provide housing and transportation for those in need. The initiative aims to serve Bowling Green residents first, with plans to expand.

Tisdale has recruited licensed professionals to help lead this effort and encourages the community to get involved.

“It starts with family,” he said. “And it grows when we’re open to change.”

As his music returns to the airwaves, so does his mission—to uplift his hometown, one voice at a time.
