Bowling Green holds first Overdose Awareness Walk

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – Community members gathered at the SOKY Fairgrounds on Sunday for Bowling Green’s first-ever Overdose Awareness Walk.

The event was held on International Overdose Awareness Day to honor lives lost, support those in recovery, and raise awareness about overdose prevention. Organizers said the walk also aimed to connect people with local resources and reduce the stigma surrounding addiction.

“This is definitely a day to grieve, but it is also a time to remember you’re not alone, and a time to act. We are here to stand against stigma, rally this community together, and let everyone know that hope is possible,” said Kimberly Bratton, a representative for a sponsor of the event.

The event was sponsored by the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Behavioral Health Group, along with several community partners and recovery organizations. Organizers also distributed information about free Narcan sites throughout Bowling Green.

They say Sunday’s walk is the beginning of continued efforts to expand resources and strengthen recovery support in the region.
