1 dead, 1 arrested on DUI charge after crash in Cumberland County

BURKESVILLE, Ky. – One person is dead and another is behind bars after a deadly crash in Monroe County.
According to the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded Thursday at 9:39 p.m. to a single-vehicle injury collision on Sulphur Creek Road in Cumberland County.
Authorities say preliminary investigation findings indicate 66-year-old Ronald Huser of Lebanon, Indiana, was traveling on Sulphur Creek Road near the Sulphur Creek Marina parking lot entrance in a 2014 Ram 2500.
Huser then lost control of the vehicle, authorities say, before leaving the side of the road and striking a tree.
A passenger in Huser’s vehicle, 65-year-old Douglas Johnson of Lebanon, Indiana, was transported from the scene to Cumberland County Hospital, where he died due to his injuries.
Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital by the Cumberland County coroner.
A second passenger, 38-year-old Mallory Larson of Lebanon, Indiana was transported to the Cumberland County Hospital and later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries.
Huser refused medical treatment at the scene, according to authorities.
Huser was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense, vehicular homicide when under the influence of alcohol and first-degree assault. Huser was lodged in the Adair County Detention Center.
Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Burkesville Police Department, Cumberland County Fire and EMS, and the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office.
This collision remains under investigation.
