Barren County & Glasgow host community pep rally for football game
GLASGOW, Ky. – As we approach Football Frenzy for this week, a big rivalry game is among the highlights as Barren County and Glasgow take the field against each other. But before that, the community comes together for a pep rally.
“It’s just a fun night on the square, it’s good for even the younger ones too that come… and my kids love it. I hope every kid who attends tonight loves it, and I feel like the adults love it just as much,” judge executive Jamie Bewley Byrd says.
“This is a huge rivalry, but to be able to see everybody come together really shows what it’s about… the community, the kids, the fun, the atmosphere and the tradition is what it’s all about,” Glasgow High School principal Joey Norman says.
“The atmosphere tonight is so exciting. There’s so many of our players, our students, families, parents. I even saw the first football coach at Barren County High School walking around tonight. It’s just such a wonderful community event. You can just feel that small town community,” Barren County High School principal Letitia Hughes says.
Whether you support the Trojans or Scotties, it’s all about coming together and supporting the kids.
“I’m proud of our community, I’m proud of where we’re at as a community in regards to…. the Barren County/Glasgow game is tradition and just having that opportunity to come together as a community and like I say, whether one team wins or loses, it’s about community and just how it’s just all… the best place to live in,” Bewley Byrd says.
For the principals, it’s about the bonds the kids form with each other.
“I’m so thankful that these kids have one another to rely on, talk to, be friends. I know they’re going to put all that to the side on Friday, but it brings joy to my heart to see kids interacting with one another,” Norman says.
“When the game’s over with, that’s how our kids are… and that’s one of the things that I love about it. Our high schools, our two great schools in the same community and our kids are connected. That still means we’ve got rivalry at the game though,” Hughes says.
Before we left, though, we had to ask for some final score predictions.
“I’m excited to see just everybody come out, support both teams… and no matter what, it’s just going to be a great night,” Bewley Byrd says.
“I’m going 42-21 Dogs,” Norman predicts.
“A win is a win and Trojans are going to win,” Hughes adds.
The game takes place at Glasgow High School on Friday night at 7PM.
