Barren River Animal Welfare Association celebrates National Dog Day 2025
GLASGOW, KY – National Dog Day, created in 2004 to celebrate pets and encourage adoption, was celebrated Tuesday in Glasgow as the Barren River Animal Welfare Association highlighted its mission to connect animals with new homes.
“We have been doing all kinds of adoption specials, and our goal is to adopt out as many animals as possible,” said Connie Greer, general manager at BRAWA. “That day we’ll have little gifts for new adopters. We want it to be a fun, memorable day. We call it ‘Gotcha Day,’ and it truly is a happy day — any day you adopt.”
While National Dog Day is just 24 hours, Greer said the shelter celebrates year-round through daily care, community fundraisers and adoption events.
“We are here for the welfare of the animal — it’s in our name,” she said. “We take in all stray animals from Barren County and provide them with love and care. We spay and neuter every single animal, temperament test them and even offer programs like ‘A Date With a Dog,’ where someone can take a dog out to enrich their stay here. We treat them like our own and hope to get them adopted.”
Shelters like BRAWA say National Dog Day is a perfect time to meet your new best friend.
