NAMI of Bowling Green hosting ‘Stand Against Stigma Walk’ for overdose awareness

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – An overdose awareness walk is set to take place in Bowling Green on Sunday.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness, or NAMI, chapter in Bowling Green and Behavioral Health Group are hosting “Stand Against Stigma,” an overdose awareness walk on Aug. 31 at the SOKY Fairgrounds.

Neighbors, families, friends and the community can come together to remember those lost to overdose, support healing and raise awareness about prevention.

For one organizer, she has a bit of a personal connection, and believes it’s important for the community to come out.

“I lost my little sister in 2010 to an overdose… and after that happens, you grieve and then you ask yourself why? How could it have happened… and what signs you could have seen? I feel like if she had reached out and had the conversation with someone that she may have been able to get the help she needed,” President Rebecca Coursey said.

The walk is from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the SOKY Fairgrounds in Bowling Green.
