Bowling Green Humane Society’s Adoptathon Raises Over $39K

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – The Bowling Green–Warren County Humane Society raised more than $39,000 during its Adoptathon event broadcast Sunday night on WNKY.

The two-hour telethon, which returned after an eight-year hiatus, highlighted adoptable pets and urged the public to give. “We’re extremely grateful for the support,” Executive Director Lorri Hare said. “Every dollar raised goes directly toward saving lives, and it really shows how this community comes together for the animals.”

Shelter leaders said the money will help cover food, medical care and housing for hundreds of animals in the shelter and in foster care. “We have been at max capacity, honestly, for like the entire last year, especially with large dogs,” Hare said.

Hare also stressed that long-term solutions go beyond adoption. “We cannot adopt our way out of the problem. We cannot rescue our way out of the problem,” she said. “We have to promote spay and neuter and lower the pet overpopulation crisis.”

She added that if given additional resources, prevention would still be the top priority. “If you hand me a million dollars, that’s where it’s going to go, I’m going to help people with spay and neuter and I’m going to help educate,” Hare said. “That’s where we’re going to save the most lives.”

Donations will remain open on the Humane Society’s website and Facebook page.
