Wawa officially breaks ground on first Bowling Green location
BOWLING GREEN, KY – Wawa fans, get ready — the popular convenience store and gas station chain is officially on its way to Bowling Green.
On Wednesday, company leaders joined local officials for a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the city’s first Wawa store, officially kicking off construction.
The event celebrated Wawa’s 220-year history, detailed the company’s expansion plans, and highlighted its commitment to creating local jobs and supporting the community.
Wawa President, Brian Schaller, said the Bowling Green store is part of a much larger plan for Kentucky.
“We’re going to hire over 1,500 people in Kentucky. We have plans to open 40 stores over the next ten years — and frankly, if they all do well, the sky’s the limit,” Schaller said. “We think we’ll offer something the market hasn’t seen before in terms of fresh food.”
Known for its fresh, made-to-order food, signature coffee, and community partnerships, Wawa hopes to bring more than just fuel and snacks to Bowling Green.
“We want to show folks that this isn’t just another gas station,” Schaller said. “It’s about affecting customer lives and associate lives. We hope to earn that trust with every sale, every day.”
The Bowling Green location is expected to open next summer.
