Bowling Green City Commission approves new police vehicle purchase for BGPD

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Bowling Green City Commission has approved a more than $1.1 million purchase from Don Franklin of Somerset to get new vehicles for the Bowling Green Police Department.

Deputy Chief Penny Bowles says these cars are essentially offices for officers, so they need to be reliable and ready for any situation.

While the current fleet is still functional, many vehicles have racked up high mileage.

In an emergency, the department wants to ensure officers can focus on the job, not worry about potential car trouble.

“They put a lot of miles on their cars responding to calls every day… so we want to have the most safe, reliable transportation if we’re trying to get to a call and something happens with a car, whether it be just because it’s an older car or out of service. If you were waiting for the police to show up and we have an issue with one of our cars… that’s unacceptable. So again, we have to have the most updated and replace our fleet that’s aging,” Deputy Chief Bowles says.
