Bowling Green park becomes accessible for all children

BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Access can make a massive difference in a child’s life — and one local park is leading the way.

The Parker-Bennett Community Center playground is now accessible to all children thanks to a $400,000 investment from the city. Parks and Recreation staff will use the funds to create a safe and inclusive environment.

One mother, Shalana Page, whose daughter uses a wheelchair full-time, shared how the new smooth turf makes playtime possible and joyful for her child.

“She’s able to be included and feel included,” Page said. Kids, like Winnie Annet, also appreciate the soft turf, noting it makes the playground safer when they fall. This upgraded park is just the beginning — with more accessibility upgrades planned at Covington Woods Park, Reservoir Hill and beyond.
