Fatal Crash

AUBURN, Ky. – One person is dead after a crash in Logan County.

The Logan County Sheriff’s Office says it responded to a two-vehicle crash at US 68 East at the Auburn Railroad Crossing Wednesday evening at approximately 8:20 p.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates a vehicle traveling westbound operated by Alexa Stearsman, 42, of Russellville, struck the rear of a tractor-trailer operated by Ihor Handzyuk, 56, of Philadelphia.

LCSO says Handzyuk was stopped behind an uninvolved hazardous material tanker.

Hazardous material tankers are required to stop at railroad crossings.

Stearsman was pronounced dead by Logan County Emergency Medical Services.

No other injuries have been reported at this time.

LCSO says speed and inattention are believed to be factors in the crash.
