Feel Good Friday – 50 Years of Service: The Legacy of the Browning Fire Department

WARREN COUNTY, KY.- Half a century… five decades… 50 years of dedicated service by the Browning Fire Department has left an undeniable mark on the Warren County community.

One firefighter, Kathy Green, has been part of that legacy since nearly the beginning.

“I’ve been in it for 40-some years,” Green said. “I remember when the building was built.”

The department was one of the first volunteer stations in the county, a move that significantly reduced response times and improved safety for rural residents.

“Bowling Green used to take 20 to 30 minutes to get out here,” Green said.

Fire Chief, Keith Lockheart, emphasized the financial relief this brought, stating “It saves the taxpayers a lot of money compared to full-time departments.”

The department has not only protected the community, it has shaped those who serve.

“I realized it was more than just fun; it was about giving back to the community that raised me,” Firefighter Evan Blithe said.

Nicole Pearson, once uncertain she could do the job, now says, “I love it. I love helping, and the people are great.”

As the Browning Fire Department celebrates its 50th year, it honors the past while igniting the passion of future firefighters.
