Authorities investigating possible murder, suicide in Russell County

JABEZ, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a possible murder, suicide in Russell County.

The Russell County Coroner’s Office says it was called to Cherokee Trail in Jabez on Saturday at 8:45 pm.

RCCO found the bodies of Thomas Sawyer, 78, and his wife Dorothy Sawyer, 80, dead from apparent gunshot wounds at their residence.

Witnesses said a neighbor checked on the Sawyers and discovered their bodies.

RCCO says preliminary findings indicate a possible murder, suicide.

The Sawyers’ bodies were taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Frankford for autopsies.

Kentucky State Police is investigating the incident with assistance from RCCO.
