Elizabethtown police warn of phone scam involving fake message

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. – The Elizabethtown Police Department is warning of a new attempt at a scam its been seeing.

If you have received a text similar to the one below stating that the person was in a car accident, police warn to not call that number.

The scam attempts to appear as if someone is using a different number to contact you after a crash.

The EPD believes it leads to a central scam call center operation of some kind, where the scammer will attempt to get you to send money for whatever reason.

Officials say it is best to pause and think if you receive a message like this and to attempt to contact family members or law enforcement if you cannot reach them.
