Sarver to remain on Housing Authority Board

A longtime board member with the Housing Authority of Bowling Green will remain on the board after all.

Thursday afternoon, Bowling Green Mayor Bruce Wilkerson and Housing Authority Director Abraham Williams met with board member, Hilda Sarver and asked her to serve an additional term. She agreed.

Wilkerson said the reappointment came after a discussion with the recommended appointee, Kathy Brown and Commissioner Joe Denning. Wilkerson said Brown was willing to graciously step aside.

During last Tuesday’s city commission meeting, commissioners voted 3-2 to replace Sarver, who has served on the board for over a decade.

Wilkerson, who is also a member of the housing authority board was criticized and accused of sponsoring the agenda item for what some felt was may have been retaliation against Sarver, an accusation in which he has vehemently denied.

“In consultation with the recently recommended appointee, Kathy Brown, and upon recommendation from Commissioner Joe Denning, we have reconsidered the Housing Authority of Bowling Green’s desire to have Mrs. Hilda Sarver to continue to serve on the board,” Wilkerson said in a written statement. “Mrs. Brown had agreed to assist the Housing Authority through service on the board at the request of the Mayor, but had no intention to ‘replace’ a revered figure at the Housing Authority. We thank Mrs. Brown for her willingness to serve, but also for her graciousness to be willing to step aside to help advance the cause of the Housing Authority.”

Thursday afternoon, Wilkerson met Williams and Sarver to work through the process of reappointment.
