Rochester residents still trapped due to floodwaters

BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. – In Butler County, one town is still trapped due to the floodwaters there.

Rochester, which is settled right next to the Green River, has been trapped since the floods began, preventing Butler County residents and first responders from getting there. The waters are still deep enough to swallow entire cars as Butler County Rescue Squad had to rescue a Muhlenberg County woman who drove into the floodwaters.

Butler County officials say the community is coming together though to help get the residents of Rochester get everything they still need by boat.

“The community is actually helping out tremendously with people over in, in that area and Rochester area because it’s, there’s, there’s cut off from town. So, our emergency management director, Charlie Toms, he’s been in contact with them. And then they if they have any issues or whatever, they’ll call dispatch, and then we’ll get our rescue boat and get as far as we can. Maybe somebody in that area could come and meet us and kind of kind of relay the stuff. And so it just works out all working together,” said chief of Butler County Rescue Squad Brandon Keown.

Waters are slowly receding across the county, but it is still deep enough to get trapped in. If you have a family member or friend that lives in Rochester, Keown says to check in on them and see if they need anything.

Keown says that if you would like to help, you can reach out to the Butler County Rescue Squad via their Facebook page which you can access here. Morgantown Bank & Trust has also set up a relief fund account, where you can donate at any Morgantown Bank and Trust location.
