Bowling Green city officials provide flooding update

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Leaders from Warren County and Bowing Green met Friday to discuss the recent flooding.

Record breaking flooding hit our area and the surrounding counties within the last week. Almost 200 structures experienced damage. This resulted in over $6 million being reported.

There are still four main city streets that are blocked off. Officials urge residents not to attempt to enter these areas.

Bowling Green and Warren County have met the requirement to apply for federal disaster declaration. However, leaders do not have a time frame of when FEMA assistance will take over.

Deborah West, public information officer for the City of Bowling Green, says FEMA representatives have “been here all week.” She advises that our community “cannot expect help from any federal agencies” until there is a disaster declaration.

Deputy judge executive Bryan Downing said he believes Bowling Green is an incredible place to live. Downing credits that the community has “recognized there’s a gap in time” until FEMA is able to step in. He says he is inspired by the local organizations and community members for helping victims.

Starting Monday, April 14, the Community Recovery Center will available for flood victims in Warren County. There will be several services as well as free transportation to the facility.
