Warren County man charged with DUI, drug possession

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Warren County man is facing charges related to drug possession after a search.

According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department was working a hit-and-run collision on at 1:16 a.m. on Friday.

Police say during this time, they observed a man walk by with a cocktail. Upon making contact with the male, identified as Markell Simpson, 30, of Rockfield, was trying to pull out of the parking lot with the cocktail in the cup holder.

Police say after standard field sobriety testing, Simpson was placed in a handcuff and put into the back of a cruiser.

During a search of Simpson’s wallet, police say they located cocaine, while marijuana was located in the vehicle.

While speaking with police later, authorities say Simpson stated a plastic bag and dollar bills found contained cocaine.

Simpson was transported to the Warren County Regional Jail, where he has since been released. He faces charges of first-degree possession of a controlled substance, first offense (cocaine), possession of marijuana, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, and operating a vehicle with an expired operators license.
