Local woman spurs new city ordinance, Scottsville allows natural landscapes

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – After being reported for violating a city ordinance, one nature enthusiast worked alongside city government to come up with a new city ordinance to allow natural landscapes on private property.

Tosha Clark who started this project with her husband six years ago wanted to make her home inviting to box turtles which then evolved into providing a whole habitat for various forms of small wildlife.

After bringing the mayor and code enforcement director up to speed on what she had set out to do, they were supportive and in favor of putting forth a new ordinance to allow not only grass above 12 inches, but natural landscapes at homes and private businesses to beautify and help save creatures like monarch butterflies.

Clark said a great source of information for those interested in doing something similar in Scottsville would be SOKY Wild Ones on Facebook. The turtle lover said it’s a lot of work but it’s a rewarding experience to see life pass by right in your front yard.
