Logan Co. man indicted on charges, including drug trafficking near school

RUSSELLVILLE, Ky. – A man has been indicted on multiple offenses, including trafficking illegal drugs near a school in Logan County.
According to an indictment, 51-year-old Mark Matthews was indicted March 21 on charges of three counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, second or greater offense, (less than 4 grams – cocaine), three counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and persistent felony offender I.
For the charge of trafficking in a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school, the indictment states this stems from an incident that occurred on or around Jan. 31, when Matthews “knowingly and intentionally sold 2.8 grams of cocaine to a confidential informant.”
The indictment states Matthews was previously convicted of first-degree trafficking of a controlled substance, first offense (drug unspecified) and first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense, cocaine.
Matthews remains at the Logan County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
