Simpson County Animal Shelter looking to raise money for new kennels
FRANKLIN, Ky. – The Simpson County Animal Shelter is looking to build some new kennels to house their dogs, and they need your help.
The shelter currently has very small kennels, only 30 inches wide and five feet deep. These don’t allow much wiggle room for the dogs that are able to stay inside. They do have a play yard for them to go to, but during colder months, that’s the only place they can really go to get exercise in.
That’s why these kennels will be on an as-needed basis… not permanent homes, but long enough to get them outside for a little while or if they’re waiting to be picked up.
Shelter staff say this project will cost quite a bit of money that they simply do not have at the moment.
“The kennels that we’re looking at right now are at Tractor Supply. They have the nice big heavy duty ones. Any donation helps, it doesn’t matter. Right now, we’re looking at about $10,000 for concrete and the base set up, and about $10,000 in kennels, so we’re looking to raise $20,000,” Ruth Garriott, director of the Simpson County Animal Shelter, says.
She adds they can take any donations from citizens, businesses in the area, or even concrete companies that would like to take care of the bases for the kennels.
You can drop by the Simpson County Animal Shelter Tuesday through Saturday from ten to three to donate.
