Man charged with DUI after collision in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – One man is facing charges after police say he crashed into a vehicle with children in it.

According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded for a collision around 10:38 a.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Lane and West Main Avenue.

Upon arrival, police say both vehicles had sustained severe damage.

The driver of one vehicle was identified as Manuel Lopez, 34.

Police say when Lopez exited the vehicle, he was unsteady and smelled of alcoholic beverages.

Police say the other vehicle contained four passengers during the collision, including a 2-year-old and a 4-month-old. The driver was transported for evaluation of back pain. According to police, all of the airbags in this vehicle had deployed.

Lopez was taken into custody and transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for medical clearance.

Lopez was later transported to the Warren County Regional Jail. He is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense and no operators moped license. He is additionally charged as a fugitive through U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
