Empty Bowls serves up support for those in need
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On Thursday night, around 300 community members gathered at Forest Park Baptist Church to support the fight against food insecurity.
This is the 12th year now for Empty Bowls in Bowling Green, an event meant to raise money for those in need by offering a hot meal and a handmade clay bowl in exchange for a monetary donation.
Participants paid $15 per person, and that money will then be donated to Hotel Inc. and the Synergy Center.
This is the first year back in person since COVID, and organizer Gary Taylor says he’s had several people approach him saying they’re glad his church has brought it back.
Taylor says, “So I think it’s an event that people, people like, because everybody can make a difference in their own way, whether they’re donating, going to the library and making a bowl and donating or making and donating desserts or soup are coming to help us serve others, ”
Taylor says he brought the idea home to Bowling Green with him after coming across it while living in New Hampshire, and since then, it’s his and many others’ favorite time of the year.
Taylor also tells News 40 that it doesn’t just have to be this one day of the year to show support. You can always donate through their website at emptybowlsbg.com.
