Safe Spot initiative helps lost or troubled children
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – One program locally that helps those affected by things like child abuse is called the Safe Spot initiative.
You may have noticed triangles with smiley faces on them at different businesses throughout south-central Kentucky.
They are designed to help children that are lost or in trouble find a safe place.
Scottsville is one of the communities that takes part in this initiative, and police chief Darren Tabor says they actually teach it in the school system.
Tabor also adds the importance of a program like this in not just Allen County but any community.
“You never know the battle that someone’s facing, whether it be a child or anybody, if they see this and they’re passing down an area or whatever and don’t know where to go or they’ve lost their parents or whatever, they see this sign and they know, ‘Hey, that’s a safe spot,’ and those people at those locations. We give them the information, they know who to contact,” he says.
Tabor thanks the Family Enrichment Center in Bowling Green for creating this program to help kids in the region stay safe.
