Canned tuna sold at Trader Joe’s recalled for possible botulism concerns

KENTUCKY – Health officials are warning consumers about a recall affecting several brands of canned tuna due to botulism concerns.
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the voluntary recall involves canned tuna products sold under the Genova®, Van Camp’s®, H-E-B and Trader Joe’s brand names.
The FDA says the recall by Tri-Union Seafoods is out of an abundance of caution due to a manufacturing defect that made the pull tab lid on some products have compromised integrity, which could cause them to leak or develop clostridium botulinum.
Botulism can potentially be fatal, according to health officials.
Some products were distributed to Kroger and a variety of other stores, while Trader Joe’s labels were distributed to multiple states, including Kentucky. To see the full distribution list, click here.
Consumers are warned not to use the product even if it does not look or smell spoiled.
No illnesses associated with the product have been reported at this time.
