FDA: Broccoli sold in Walmart stores under most serious recall category

(CNN) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has updated a recent vegetable recall to its most serious category.
The FDA says Braga Fresh in late December initially issued a voluntary recall for its Marketside brand Washed and Ready-To-Eat 12-ounce bags of broccoli florets.
It was after listeria contamination was discovered by Texas health officials in several product samples from a Walmart store.
No illnesses had been reported.
However, late last month, the FDA upgraded the recall to Class 1.
The agency says that means there is a higher risk of serious health consequences or death if using or consuming the product.
The broccoli under recall has a best-by date of Dec. 10 of last year.
It was sold at Walmart stores in 20 states, including Kentucky.
The lot code is BFFG327A6.
So far, officials say there are no reports of illness or deaths.
However, if you have frozen bags of this product in your freezer, the FDA advises to throw it away immediately.
