FRANKLIN, Ky. – Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College’s SKY FAME program is hosting a recruitment night for those interested in learning more about the program.

The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 27 at 5 p.m. at SKYCTC’s Franklin-Simpson Center located at 175 Davis Drive in Franklin.

Those interested are encouraged to bring their parents or guardians with them to the session.

The Southcentral Kentucky Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education is a partnership of regional manufacturers whose purpose is to implement a work-and-learn style program to make a highly skilled pipeline. According to SKYCTC, students can use SKY FAME to “dive into a challenging advanced manufacturing career while earning a college degree and potentially graduate with zero student debt.”

Students who are selected will go to classes at SKYCTC Franklin-Simpson Center two days a week and work a minimum of 24 a week for a local manufacturer.

They will also be paid a competitive wage, school officials say.

The release states students study a multi-craft technical skill set, including electricity, robotics, fluid power, mechanics, fabrication, industrial troubleshooting and more.

Following five semesters, students will have earned an associate degree in applied sciences in industrial maintenance technology-advanced manufacturing technician track and over 1,800 hours of on-the-job work experience.

Zachary Scott, a second-year SKY FAME student, said, “The SKY FAME program is unique because I can apply everything I learn at school on the job. I’ve had the best experience as a student while working and learning at Owl’s Head Alloys in Bowling Green, KY. We are lucky because Owl’s Head Alloys treats all its employees extremely well, and I have had an incredible learning experience developing as a maintenance technician. SKY FAME a game changer for my future.”

SKY FAME is currently recruiting for its 10th cohort of students. The program, which began in 2016, has witnessed over 100 students graduate, working at one of 25 manufacturing facilities affiliated with the SKY FAME program.

Door prizes at the event to be given away include a 65” Smart TV and a Dell Laptop valued at more than $800. Winners must be present to win.
