BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is charged with murder after allegedly staging a crash scene.

Warren County sheriff Brett Hightower says the sheriff’s office responded to a call from a passing motorist about a vehicle that struck a utility pole in the 11000 block of Morgantown Road at 2:59 a.m. on Dec. 22.

At the scene, authorities say the occupant, Michael Scott Lee, 56, of Bowling Green, was dead from injuries. However, authorities say those injuries were not consistent with a vehicle crash.

The investigation shows Lee planned to meet an unknown individual at approximately 10 p.m. on Dec. 21, according to the sheriff’s office.

Detectives received a tip on Dec. 23 that identified Ali Fadil, 30, of Bowling Green, as a suspect in the investigation, officials say. Authorities say detectives and FBI analysts obtained information that substantiated the involvement of Fadil in the death of Lee.

According to a uniform citation, Fadil’s and Lee’s phones were found to be in the same immediate vicinity of the wreck at around 2:26 a.m. on Dec. 22.

Fadil is charged with murder and is lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.

The investigation is ongoing.
