LEITCHFIELD, Ky. – A Grayson County K-9 with hundreds of arrests behind its career is now going into retirement.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that it has decided to retire K-9 Zeus due to some non-life threatening medical issues.

“Zeus was a great asset to our Office. He was responsible for removing thousands upon thousands of dollars’ worth of illegal drugs from our streets. He was able to locate a gun for another agency which was later found to be involved in a homicide. He found people that were lost, and he tracked and located many articles/evidence that were involved in a crime. He assisted other agencies and was responsible for hundreds of arrests in his short career as a police K-9,” sheriff Norman Chaffins says.

Now, the K-9 is finding a home away from home. The sheriff’s office says his handler, deputy Sean Fentress, has resigned and is heading to the Elizabethtown Police Department.

However, he’s not leaving without Zeus – officials say he has agreed to buy the K-9 from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, allowing him to have a life at home with Fentress.

The GCSO says it will another buy a new K-9 soon once its new hires complete the DOCJT police academy.
