Metcalfe Co. High School students selected as state engineers, ambassadors

EDMONTON, Ky. – Metcalfe County High School and the Commonwealth are set to be represented by two students as 2024-25 STLP Engineers/Ambassadors.
Seniors Logan Gaskins and Landon Heckel are two of just 12 students chosen across the state as engineers/ambassadors for the Student Technology Leadership Program.
The district says the program uses technology to design, create and collaborate to solve technical issues.
Metcalfe County Schools says this is the first time the county has had two students selected for this honor during the same year.
MCHS teacher Justin Smith said, “Logan and Landon exhibit a superior level of hard work and dedication that I observe on a daily basis as their Computer Science teacher at Metcalfe County High School. I look forward to the rest of Kentucky seeing and benefiting from the skills that these two IT professionals possess.”
MCHS principal Joseph Eaton said, “Logan and Landon are both shining examples of what we want to see in our students and are both leaders within our building. They are always looking for the next opportunity to help someone and grow as individuals. Metcalfe County is well represented by these two, and I know they’ll continue to show the world what Hornet Hustle is all about.”
Both students also work in the Metcalfe County Schools Technology Department as part of the high school’s computer science co-op program.
Chief information officer Randy Lee said, “This honor shows others what we get to see every day from Logan and Landon – their high level of technical expertise, people skills, and leadership. All of us in the technology department are extremely proud of them and their accomplishments.”
As Engineers/Ambassadors, Logan and Landon will be invited to participate in a student advisory group with KDE’s Office of Education Technology. They will also provide technical support and leadership at the Kentucky Society for Technology in Education Conference and the STLP State Championship.
