Five charged with child abuse after child found locked in cage

CARROLLTON, Ky. – Five people have been charged with criminal child abuse after a child under 3 was discovered locked inside a caged area on Monday.
The Carrollton Police Department says it received a tip of a child possibly being held in a caged area at a residence located at 706 7th Street.
At the location, police say they located a male child under the age of 3 unclothed and locked inside a wooden and metal enclosure.
Police executed a search warrant on the property.
The preliminary investigation shows two children were removed from the home.
Five individuals are facing charges related to the incident.
- Brenda Chilton 71 of Carrollton. Criminal Abuse 1st and Wanton Endangerment 1st
- William Mahoney 72 of Carrollton. Criminal Abuse 1st and Wanton Endangerment 1st.
- Codey Johnson 29 of Carrollton. Criminal Abuse 1st and Wanton Endangerment 1st.
- Tammy Simmons 52 of Carrollton. Criminal Abuse 1st and Wanton Endangerment 1st.
- Shelby Turocy 28 of Ghent. Criminal Abuse 1st, Wanton Endangerment 1st, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of drug paraphernalia and Possession of Marijuana.
The five suspects are lodged at the Carroll County Detention Center.
