WNKY News 40 Weather Report: KenTenn Weather Workshop
Get Ready For An Exciting and Educational Weather Workshop At WKU!
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- Weather enthusiasts and aspiring scientists across the region will have the chance to explore the KenTenn Weather Workshop! This FREE event is presented by White Squirrel Weather, WKU Disaster Science Operations Center, and WKU’s AMS/NWS Chapter. In this workshop you’ll learn from meteorologists, emergency managers and disaster scientists across the region.
“The KenTenn Workshop represents meteorology, emergency managers and disaster scientists across Kentucky and Tennessee to come together for a free workshop that is really educational and designed for anyone who’s interested in areas in meteorology, emergency management, and just how that really comes together for communities.” Said Dr. Josh Durkee, University meteorologist and Professor at WKU.
Dr. Durkee is a director of WKU’s Disaster Science Operations Center.
“Disaster Science Operations Center is a is a regional hub of resilience where weather plays one of the most important sort of spokes on the wheel of incidents and disasters in the area.” Durkee mentioned.
“In the spectrum of disaster science, certainly, we have natural hazards. We have technological hazards, we have human induced incidents, those types of things. And we can train our students to monitor and respond to all of those types of incidents in this facility. And in addition to, we can then use our meteorology program as a way to train students on how to bring sort of the weather prediction and monitoring to those types of incidents.”- Durkee
The KenTenn workshop is this Saturday October 26, 2024 at WKU’s Ogden College auditorium. The event starts at 8am!
