Barren River Area Safe Space remembering those lost to domestic violence with candlelight vigil

BOWLNG GREEN, Ky. – The Barren River Area Safe Space is working hard to bring awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and every year, they recognize a list of individuals called Speak My Name.

On Thursday, they will hold a candlelight vigil for those who were lost to domestic violence. BRASS will read off 28 names of those who have passed as victims to domestic violence and another 56 names of those who have died in the past in the 10-county region that BRASS serves.

One BRASS member says keeping up awareness and remembering those who have been lost is very important.

“It’s so important for us to keep that awareness around so that a person who may not realize the impact domestic violence has in our community can understand the significance and the prevalence within our community,” executive director Tori Henninger said.

The vigil will take place on Oct. 24 at Circus Square Park starting at 5:30 p.m. The event is open to all who would like to join.
