Warren County Regional Jail to welcome peer support specialist

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Regional Jail has announced it is partnering with Addiction Recovery Care to welcome a full-time peer support specialist program.

A full-time peer support specialist is being added to its Reentry Services Division starting in October, according to a release by Warren County Regional Jail.

The jail says it will collaborate with Addiction Recovery Care to offer this resource to inmates.

According to the release, the peer support specialist, who is employed by ARC, will work directly with incarcerated individuals who are facing addiction. The program aims to offer peer-led support in small group settings, the release says.

The release says this specialist will also help inmates navigate possible treatment programs with ARC, along with other facilities.

The jail says this will help provide ongoing care post-release.

“This position has the potential to offer tremendous support to our incarcerated population and contribute positively to the community,” said Warren County jailer Stephen Harmon. “We look forward to seeing the impact of this new role in preparing individuals for a successful return to society.”

The jail says the mission of WCRJ’s Reentry Services Division is to assist offenders with successful reintegration into the community, reduce recidivism rates and improve public safety by “addressing the spiritual, educational, employment, healthcare, housing, identification and family relationship needs.”

The jail says offenders will also be connected to resources and evidence-based treatment before they are released.
