LOGAN COUNTY, Ky. – The Russellville Rural Fire Department has been collecting supplies for those impacted by Hurricane Helene in North Carolina, and this morning, those supplies hit the road.

Donations were collected by the community and put into a trailer at Logan Aluminum.

On Oct. 3, the chief of the Russellville Rural Fire Department Cheryl Allen, and a few other firefighters drove the trailer to the Asheville area and are working to donate the supplies to those who were impacted by Hurricane Helene.

They’re taking with them non-perishables, cleaning supplies, batteries and more. Allen shared with us where she wants to go to help people who maybe be struggling to get assistance.

“We’re hoping to reach out to the back country, instead of the main distribution areas. So we’re going to be taking a side by side with us so we can navigate back into some areas that maybe nobody’s been able to reach folks with supplies,” Allen said.

While this trailer is already helping those in North Carolina, there are other ways that you can help.

Officials say that monetary donations are the best way you can contribute, however it is important research who you are giving your money too.
