Beshear orders flags to half-staff in honor of Russell County sheriff’s deputy

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Andy Beshear is ordering for flags at all state office buildings to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Sept. 21, in honor of a Russell County deputy sheriff who died in the line of duty.

The tribute will last from sunrise to sunset.

The governor’s office says Russell County sheriff’s deputy Joshua Phipps, a former Louisville Metro Police Department officer, was shot while searching for a suspect on Monday, Sept. 16.

He later died from his injuries at Russell County Hospital. He was 38 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at 3trees Church in Russell Springs with cremation to follow.

The governor encourages all individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
