Living Well: More on a Recent Measles Case

This week, WKU confirmed that one of their students had a case of measles. But what exactly does that mean for our community?
In today’s Living Well, we learn more about the case on Western Kentucky’s Campus and take a look at the warning signs of measles.

This week, health officials confirmed a case was found in a Tennessee resident who is a student at Western Kentucky University.

The Kentucky Department of Health reports the student was unvaccinated and recently traveled internationally where they were exposed.

Dr. Joanna Shaw-Kaikai, the Interim Director Of Health for The Metro Nashville Public Health Department says that early symptoms of measles begin about 8-12 days after exposure. That could mean a fever a cough runny nose and more.

Dr. Shaw-Kaikai says now is a good chance to remind the public about the importance of getting vaccinated, especially if you plan to travel abroad.
