WKU volleyball puts up fight against No. 16 Tennessee

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WKU volleyball put up a fight last night in the Lady Tops first home game of the season with the No. 16 Lady Volunteers.

WKU took Tennessee to five sets but ultimately fell in that last set when the Lady Vols beat the Hilltoppers to fifteen points and took the 3-2 win.

Senior outside hitter Kaylee Cox had a big night inside Diddle Arena, leading WKU with a season-high of 18 kills, while sophomore Izzy Van De Wiele led in blocks with six.

Despite the loss, head coach Travis Hudson was proud of the fight put up by his squad.

“Tonight, I think we showed anybody that watched that we’re still a team to be reckoned with, and one of the better teams in the country,” Hudson said. “That’s a very good Tennessee team that I thought played at a very high level and I thought we matched it. When you get into a fifth set, it truly is a bounce here or there always in a fifth set and tonight it just wasn’t our turn.”
