Man arrested on drug charges in Cave City after traffic stop

CAVE CITY, Ky. – A man is facing drug possession charges after a traffic stop in Cave City on Sunday.

The Cave City Police Department says a K-9 officer stopped a vehicle on Mammoth Cave Street for failure to illuminate head lamps.

Police say the operator of the vehicle, identified as Brian Poynter, 42, gave consent for officers to search the vehicle.

Police say K-9 Mako, CPD’s new K-9 officer, gave a positive alert for the presence of illegal drugs in the vehicle.

Authorities say they found multiple small bags of suspected marijuana and a suspected methamphetamine smoking pipe in the vehicle. Upon searching Poynter, police say they found a small bag of suspected marijuana, a set of digital scales and a container of suspected crystal methamphetamine.

Poynter was arrested and transported to the Barren County Detention Center.

He is charged with failure to illuminate head lamps, possession of marijuana, first-degree possession of a controlled substance, third or greater offense (methamphetamine) and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess.
