Independence Day on the square, Simpson County celebrates the holiday

FRANKLIN, Ky. – It fell off for a few years but now is back on its fifth successful run, the Franklin-Simpson Independence Day Parade.

It was hot out but a big crowd came out to celebrate the Fourth of July, watching dozens of cars, trucks and tractors drive through town to the square. A significant part of the event was the spotlight shone on local veterans, the parade’s committee inviting all retired and active duty veterans to lead the parade as grand marshals.

News 40 spoke to one celebrant, he said even though the fanfare of the holiday is great, the fireworks and grilled food, Tyler Arteburn said today is about remembering and honoring sacrifices made.
