BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a way to show up for a Western Kentucky University graduate and the legacy she left behind.

To honor her memory, the university states her parents have established the Lauren Gerkins Marr Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The family says you can purchase Bowling Green Hot Rods tickets from them for the game taking place Saturday, June 15 to benefit the scholarship fund sponsored by the WKU College Heights Foundation.

News 40 reported that Marr died on the night of May 16, when troopers say a vehicle crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and struck Marr’s vehicle.

Event organizers say Marr graduated from WKU with an undergraduate and master’s degree in social work. WKU’s website also states, “She was a member and former chapter president of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. She loved WKU and her WKU family. She was a dedicated employee of the Kentucky Child Protective Services for seven years. Her deep passion for helping children and their families was evident in everything she did. In her short life, she was a devoted mother, and a faithful member of Forest Park Baptist Church in Bowling Green. She is remembered for the many and generous contributions she made to her family, friends, and community. ”

According to WKU’s website, the scholarship fund helps “deserving Kentucky residents seeking their masters of social work degree with preference given to those who serve or live in the Two Rivers Region.”
