KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Valley Authority has announced 106 schools will benefit from over $3 million in grants.

The funding will be used for energy and learning environment upgrades, according to a release by the TVA. These grants are awarded as part of TVA’s School Uplift program, which has saved participating schools an average of 10% on their energy bills annually through behavioral changes alone.

When combined with energy savings from grant-funded upgrades, this year’s participants will save energy equal to the estimated electricity used by 1,241 homes in one year, according to the TVA.

Grants were awarded to schools based on scores achieved through cutting energy waste, engaging the school community and a needs-based assessment.

Local schools awarded funding include Butler County High School in Morgantown, Kentucky at $10,000 and Chandler’s Elementary School in Russellville, Kentucky at $25,000.

The 2024-2025 School Uplift program will kick off this summer with up to 120 new schools enrolled, which will be on their way to saving energy and helping students across the Valley thrive.
